Sea breezes come in every afternoon in summer..
Get off the beaten track and discover the ‘other Rhône’. Let’s pay a visit to three dynamic winemakers producing voluptuous blends on this land where the Rhône mingles with the Camargue.
Costières de Nîmes
Costières de Nîmes is in the Camargue, Europe’s largest river delta, where the Rhône reaches the Mediterranean via a multitude of ever-changing mouths, and the braided river has, over hundreds of thousands of years, dumped huge terraces and banks of rolled pebbles - the galets roulés - just like those present in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Is it a different terroir to Châteauneuf-du-Pape? Certainly. It is closer to the sea and clearly more maritime: the sea wind comes in every afternoon in summer and the temperature drops dramatically giving the wines a more delicate yet voluptuous style than those of its more famous neighbour upriver.
