The space
Welcome to La Bastide de l'Alzon, a beautiful Provençal country house, tucked away on a quiet country road just minutes from lovely Uzès. At La Bastide, French elegance meets modern comfort to provide a picturesque family retreat with stunning elements including unsurpassable settings for family meals and a luxuriously large salt-water lap pool, situated within a grove of mature olive trees.
As you step inside La Bastide, you’ll be awed by the magnificent dining room, with old world stone floors, and a high vaulted brick ceiling, an impressive architectural feature unique even among stately French houses. In this room, the long farmhouse dining table guarantees memorable meals as the heart of your family vacation, along with a kitchen equipped with amenities for those who love to cook. A comfortable lounge off the dining room features a stone fire place and a window looking out over the expansive landscape.
Upstairs, you’ll find three serene, air-conditioned suites, each with its own private bathroom and large windows to take in the breeze and lovely views.
At La Bastide, guests often recount long afternoons under the jasmine-shaded terrace, swimming laps or lounging in the pool, and enjoying the tranquil garden with the gentle cacophony of nature as the only sound one can hear. Summer evenings are something special: soft lights, starry skies, the gentle chorus of cicadas — everything invites you to slow down and soak it all in.
The lovely town of Uzès, just minutes away, offers all of the stimulation you desire including a vibrant market in Place aux Herbes, held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and streets lined with authentically charming and chic shopping and restaurants. The region is steeped in history and ripe for exploration — from the Roman aqueduct at Pont du Gard to the ancient arenas of Nîmes and the grand Palais des Papes in Avignon.
For nature lovers, a canoe ride beneath the cliffs of the Gardon is unforgettable — as are horseback rides through the garrigue or sunrise hot air balloon flights for the more daring.
And everyone will love learning more about the renowned gastronomie — with wine tours to bio-diverse vineyards, visits to olive oil mills and cheese farms, and taste tours through the local markets. We can even arrange to have a chef prepare meals for you.
It is a true joy to welcome guests from around the world to La Bastide and to share the extraordinary beauty, flavours, and rhythms of this special part of France. We look forward to hosting you.
